Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since March of 2023.

Success also means the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serve.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to create a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 early break points in a tight third set before the champion broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
